Raised on the Latin beat of the streets of South Bronx, New York, Wilson "Chembo" Corniel learned his percussive craft from master drummers Tommy Lópoz, Potato, Little Ray Romero, and Cachete Maldonado. After a long stint in the 1980s with Bobby Rodriguez & La Compañia, Corniel m v with virtually everyone, including Tito Puente, Sonora Ponceña, Willie Colón, The Bronx Horns, Chico Freeman, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Buddy Montgomery, Bobby Sanabria, Chris Washburne, and Larry Harlow. His rhythmic savvy can also be enjoyed daily on the soundtracks of the popular bilingual Nickelodeon children's television series "Dora, The Explorer" In this debut recording, Corniel paints a collage of rhythms and forms through ten selections of mostly original scores, which capture the reality of the Nuyorican experience in the Big Apple. The selections vary and borrow from all the different forms of Latin, jazz, and other popular music genres, rendered in a hard-core cutting edge style of Latin jazz. website| Hear music sample
