The "NYPD JAZZ BAND" is comprised of eighteen members. Every member of the ensemble is a full time Police Officer with advanced and various musical talents and backgrounds. Members of the band get together while off duty from their respective precincts to rehearse and perform. The jazz ensemble was created in 2005 by Police Officer Anthony Stewart and has already performed in an impressive number of locations worldwide, including Tokyo, Japan, Quebec City, Canada, and Hong Kong, China. In the United States, the ensemble has shared their music with crowds from New York to Pennsylvania to California. In addition to performing at veterans and children’s hospitals, in their spare time, band members also give workshops regularly at public schools throughout the New York City area teaching young people about Jazz music. The ensemble has been very successful in reinforcing to our youth that music can truly enhance your life, and that something which is done “for free” can indeed, be of great value. Members of the band devote hundreds of hours of their personal time to reach kids at risk in some of the city’s toughest neighborhoods. The band is committed to the community and is willing to share its collective talents with others whenever possible. The "NYPD JAZZ BAND" is under the direction of Lieutenant Tony Giorgio. www.policeband.org
