Yuma Sung was born in the spring of 1989 in the Silicon Valley in Northern California. He began studying calssical piano at the age of six and was attracted to Jazz piano at the age of nine. In August 2003, Yuma was honored to be part of the Three Generation Concert with Dave Brubeck, David Benoit, and himself as the third generation, and again in 2006. In 2006 and 2007, he was selected as Grammy Jazz Ensemble Combo pianist. They toured Los Angeles for 10 days in February. During this event, they were invited to attend the Grammy Show in Los Angeles. As Yuma polishes his talents in Music, he started to contribute his knowledge to help inspiring the other youth. He started to teach at the San Jose Jazz Camp from the summer of 2000. Yuma has released 2 CDs, the latest one is from Columbia Music Entertainment in 2005 (Yuma Style), which has received the Gold Disc Award. He is now attending Manhattan School of Music in New York. The Yuma Sung Group is a reunion of 5 young musicians who haven't performed together since they were in high school. website
The San Jose Jazz Youth Orchestra is an advanced jazz ensemble comprised of the Bay Area's most talented High School jazz musicians. The orchestra is formed with: Alto Sax Scott Takahashi and Giancarlo Antonelli; Tenor Sax Matt Carroll and Katsuya Yuasa; Bari Sax Alyssa Pohahua; Trombone Jessica Magallanes, Ryan McCray, Ben Adams and Christy Jardetzky; Bass Trombone Jim Shaver; Trumpet Daniel Merriott, Tyler Kaneshiro, Tomomi Yuasa, Joanna Brockhouse and Robert Wilson; Drums Nick Sutton; Bass Xochilt Garcia; Piano Stephen Pocus Alternates: Alto Sax Justin Sandoval and Spencer Broadhead; Tenor Sax Akshay Tambe; Piano Greg Chen.
